Hiriwadunna Village Tour Summary
Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the nature and culture of a genuine Sri Lankan village during our 2.5-hour tour. The centrally situated Habarana hotels will be the meeting point for your guide/driver, who will then take you by a tuk tuk to the lovely rural community of Hiriwadunna Village within Habarana City. A bullock cart trip around the village pond kicks off the tour, after which you’ll take a boat to the next part of the rural community. A quick stroll through the vegetable and paddy fields will bring you to the village house. It’s possible to unwind and enjoy a delectable Sri Lankan lunch at the village house. After that, take a Tuk Tuk to the tour starting place. Once the tour is over, you’ll be driven back to your hotel.
Hiriwadunna Village Tour Plan
Complete package includes a Hotel pickup & drop-off by Tuk Tuk, Bullock cart ride, Boat Ride, Visit a Village House, have a local lunch or Snack and Take a Tuk-Tuk Ride.
Hotel pickup by Tuk tuk : 10.00 am (Flexible)
You will be picked up from your hotel and drive approximately 15-30 minutes to reach the trekking starting point. Short transfer gives you a very good chance to experience the natural breeze and take photos of the attractions alongside the road.
Bullock cart ride :
This 2.5-hour tour usually starts with a bullock cart ride through untraveled village paths to Hiriwadunna. The ride lasts for fifteen to twenty minutes and is pulled by two bulls. The journey comes to an end close to Hiriwadunna Lake, where you can get off from the cart and board a catamaran boat ride.
Canoe Boat ride
The Hiriwadunna Lake is the location of the Catamaran Boat Ride. As you cruise, you will be able to take in the breathtaking views of the Sigiriya and Pidurangala rocks in addition to the lake. You can also join the Boatman if you’d like to assist with rowing the boat. He may surprise you with his inventiveness and skill. A lovely necklace for the ladies and a hat for the gentlemen. The tour boat will finally dock by the little community across the shore.
Village House Activities
A true village house’s typical daily routine is visible. It’s important to visit a garden where endemic vegetables are cultivated and the paddy field. Try to keep animals away from the paddy by scaling the tree home next to the field of paddy where farmers spend their nights sleeping.
A woman from the hamlet, dressed in traditional Sri Lankan redda and hatte, warmly greeted us with a nice smile saying, AYUBOWAN!
Cooking demongstration
She offered you a culinary demonstration on traditional Sri Lankan cuisine for thirty minutes. Additionally, you can see a village woman prepare a roti or a traditional meal. She demonstrates how to create a roof out of coconut leaves and how to separate rice seeds from the straw and husks using kulla and mirisgala. You can test those products as well. You can savour a straightforward traditional supper made using the farmer’s hand-picked veggies from the plot by a village woman.
Buffet Lunch
Lunch was served buffet style, consisting of rice accompanied by five or six traditional Sri Lankan curries and freshly fried fish served in clay pots. A unique dining experience is having lunch on top of spotless lotus leaves. Following your scrumptious Sri Lankan meal, you can spend some time there.
Tuk Tuk ride
At the end of the village tour you will be taking a Tuk-Tuk ride back to the starting point.
Hotel drop-off by Tuk Tuk
Then you will be drop off to hotel.
